Preparing For Your Breakthrough

1 Chronicles 14:8-17 – Preparing For Your Breakthrough

On October 1, 1947, Chuck Yeager did something amazing – he broke the sound barrier in the Bell X-1 rocket plane at 45,000 feet. Before that, most people thought it was impossible. But this is a great reminder for us: sometimes, what seems impossible can be conquered, especially when we push through the barriers in our personal, professional, or spiritual lives.

The Universal Desire to Keep Moving Forward

We all want to move forward in life, right? Whether it’s our careers, finances, personal growth, or just improving our day-to-day life, the drive to get better is a part of who we are. But let’s face it, sometimes we hit roadblocks, or barriers, that seem impossible to overcome.

Facing Barriers

Barriers can be anything from external situations, like tough circumstances, to internal struggles, like fear or self-doubt. These things make us feel stuck, like we’re facing a wall that’s stopping us from moving forward.

In 1 Chronicles 14:8-17, King David faced his own “wall” when the Philistines came after him. But instead of worrying, David turned to God for help, asking Him, “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” When God said yes, David went for it and won. Afterward, David shouted out in victory, “As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand. So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord of the Breakthrough”).

Understanding Breakthroughs

David’s story shows us what a breakthrough really is – an unstoppable force, like water bursting through a dam, that breaks down the barriers in front of us. Breakthroughs aren’t something we can create on our own – they come from God. It’s His power that brings the wave of change we need to move forward.

How to Get Ready for Your Breakthrough

While we can’t make breakthroughs happen, we can prepare ourselves for when God brings them. Here are three steps to get ready:

  1. Admit You Need a Breakthrough:  First, be real with yourself. If you’re stuck or facing resistance, it’s time to recognize that you need something to change.

  2. Get Specific About What Needs to Change: Think about the specific areas in your life where you need that breakthrough. Just like David asked God for victory over the Philistines, we need to be clear in our prayers about what we’re asking for.
  3. Turn to the “Lord of the Breakthrough”: True breakthroughs come from God. Just like David asked for God’s guidance, we need to do the same. When we rely on Him, He can create the momentum we need to push through the barriers holding us back.

Just as the Philistines left their idols behind after their defeat, showing how completely God had triumphed, we too can experience total victories in our lives when we turn to God.

So, as you look for progress in your life, remember that breakthroughs belong to God. Ask Him to bring that wave of momentum to take you where you need to go!
