Leaning on the God of Encouragement

Life can be tough, right? We all go through moments that push us to our limits. But how we deal with those tough times says a lot about our faith. Real encouragement isn’t just about feeling good – it’s a powerful thing that helps us keep going, especially when life gets hard.

True Encouragement Comes From God

When it comes down to it, true encouragement starts with God. He’s always got our back, and that’s where we should find our strength. No matter what we face, we can rely on Him because He’s already won the ultimate battle through Jesus.

Once we understand just how much God is there for us, it should inspire us to live for Him. Knowing His love and commitment to us should make us want to give our best to Him in return.

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9-10: “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Sources of Encouragement

Here are some ways to find encouragement when things get tough:

  1. From Others – We’re meant to encourage one another. The Bible talks about how important it is to lift each other up:
    • 2 Corinthians 13:11: “Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.”
  2. From Your Own Progress – Noticing how far you’ve come can be a great boost! Just remember to give the credit to God!
    • Philippians 1:6: “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
  3. Ultimate Encouragement Comes From God – Our deepest, most lasting encouragement comes from God.

Look at David in 1 Samuel 30:6. After discovering that the Amalekites had destroyed his town, David could have given up. But he didn’t.

  • 1 Samuel 30:6: “David was greatly distressed, but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”

David turned to the Lord for his encouragement, and we can do the same. Because of Jesus, we can always turn to God no matter what we’re going through.

Embracing Ordinary Seasons

A lot of life is just made up of regular, everyday moments. And sometimes those ordinary seasons can feel… well, ordinary. But real strength comes from finding meaning even in the day-to-day stuff. God promises us in Isaiah 40:31 that when we wait on Him, He’ll renew our strength.

  • Isaiah 40:31: “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

Trusting in Him keeps us going, even when life feels routine.

Embracing Truth

If you’re feeling down, hearing the truth of the Gospel is a good start, but living it out is where the real power is! As James 1:22 says, “Be doers of the word, not just hearers.”

When we live out God’s truth, we experience the power that comes from walking in His promises.

Sustaining Your Walk with God

Keeping your faith strong takes more than just going to church on Sundays. It’s about staying close to God every day. Don’t let discouragement settle in or let negative thoughts take over. Stay connected to the Lord, and keep walking with Him!

Holding onto God’s Promises

When discouragement hits, don’t let it make you doubt God’s Word. The Bible tells us to “take every thought captive” and to be “transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Your situation might be tough right now, but it won’t last forever. Stay grounded in God’s promises, knowing that your circumstances don’t change His Word. Whatever you’re going through, it will pass, but God’s encouragement and hope are here to stay!
